The Story Behind Milta
Not just repair, real care.
Milta began with one engineer and a simple idea, that high quality automatic gearbox repair should be honest, precise, and accessible.
Our founder, Tadeusz, brought his passion for engineering from Poland to the UK in 2005, where he built his first workshop near Bristol. After early challenges, including a failed business and the risk of bankruptcy, he refused to give up on the craft he loved.
A new beginning, built on the same precision and care.
In 2008 Tadeusz rebuilt everything from the ground up, focusing on what he knew best, VAG Group automatic gearboxes. Through relentless attention to detail and a commitment to doing things properly, the brand earned the trust of Audi, Volkswagen, Bentley, Lamborghini and performance car owners across the country.
Today, Milta is recognised across Europe for its expertise in automatic gearbox diagnostics, repair, rebuilding, and replacement. Drivers travel to us from the UK and abroad because they know their cars will be treated with care, precision, and complete transparency.
At the heart of Milta is a simple promise, to deliver exceptional engineering with a service experience that puts people first.

How a cheaper shortcut led to bigger costs.
A Volkswagen Golf with a DSG double clutch transmission came to us with serious drivability issues.
Our diagnostics identified a fault in the Transmission Control Unit, which had already caused clutch damage. The correct solution was clear, a full reconstruction, including repair of the mechatronic unit and clutch replacement. Estimated cost: £1,700.
Hoping to reduce costs, the owner chose an alternative route. He sourced a used TCU online and asked us to install it.
We fitted the unit as requested. It did not function, and the seller would not accept a return.
A second used TCU was then sourced and installed. This unit also failed to perform correctly, leaving the underlying issue unresolved and increasing the risk of further damage.
DSG systems rely on highly precise electronic control. Used TCUs rarely calibrate correctly, often leading to repeated faults and escalating costs.
By this stage, the vehicle was still experiencing the same issues, and the total spent on unsuccessful fixes had already increased the overall cost.
The owner then proceeded with the full reconstruction we originally recommended.
Once the mechatronic unit was repaired and the clutches replaced, the transmission returned to proper performance.
- Low-cost fixes failed to resolve the issue
- £1,700 correct repair completed
- Doing it right the first time avoids extra cost
- Transmission restored to proper performance

A second opinion that saved the customer £3200.
An owner of a 2003 Audi A4 came to us after being told she needed a full transmission rebuild costing £3,500.
The car wasn’t performing correctly, but the symptoms didn’t match the scale of the repair she had been quoted. Instead of committing to major work based on assumptions, she wanted a diagnosis grounded in evidence.
During the initial conversation, something stood out. The symptoms pointed less to a failing gearbox and more to a potential electrical issue within the Transmission Control Unit. That distinction changed everything.
The car was brought into our workshop and our diagnostic process confirmed it, the gearbox itself was functioning correctly. The real issue was damaged wiring inside the TCU.
We shared the findings with her and, with approval, carried out a targeted repair.
- The job took two hours
- The final invoice was £300.
- £3,200 saved.
A precise diagnosis that turned a £7,400 replacement into a simple repair.
An Audi A4 with an 8-speed automatic gearbox came to us after the owner received a major repair recommendation from an official Audi workshop.
He had been advised to replace the entire gearbox and cooling system, with an estimated cost of £7,400.
The only symptom was a transmission fluid leak. The workshop provided footage showing the underside of the vehicle covered in oil and, based on their standard repair pathways, recommended a full system replacement.
Before committing, the owner sought a second opinion from specialists focused on component-level repair.
After reviewing the footage, two more likely causes stood out, a damaged gearbox casing or worn cooling system pipes. Both were significantly more repairable scenarios.
The car was brought into our workshop for full diagnostics. Despite the extent of the fluid leak, there was no structural damage to the gearbox casing, eliminating the most costly outcome.
Attention then shifted to the cooling system. We temporarily replaced the pipes, refilled the transmission fluid, and carried out a test drive.
The leak stopped completely.
This confirmed the issue was not the gearbox, but the cooling pipes.
We sourced a high-quality OEM pipe kit for £40, installed it, and completed the repair.
The total cost came to under £300. No gearbox replacement. No overhaul. Just the correct repair, based on precise diagnostics.
- £7,400 replacement avoided
- Under £300 total repair
- Accurate diagnostics make all the difference
